Asaf Sirkis Trio
Asaf Sirkis : drums
Tassos Spiliotopoulos: guitar
Yaron Stavi: bass
A welcome return to the HX7 Club for Asaf Sirkis brilliant trio. The band will be performing numbers from their latest album ‘Letting Go’ as well as material destined for their new album currently in preparation.
Asaf Sirkis’ playing and compositions reflect Middle Eastern and North African influences, as well as the 70s fusion style of John McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu Orchestra. “Devastatingly creative” wrote John Fordham of him in a 2008 Guardian review; adding later that “Asaf Sirkis sounding creatively freer and more dramatically inventive than ever on drums.”
The trio also features the extraordinary playing of guitarist Tassos Spiliotopoulos, and the constantly inventive Yaron Stavi on bass. Originally from Greece, Tassos Spiliotopoulos moved to London in 2000 and since then has worked with artists such as Kenny Wheeler, Gary Husband, Tim Garland, John Parricelli, Mike Outram, John Etheridge, and many more.
Yaron Stavi plays double bass and electric bass in various styles of music including Jazz, Rock, Classical and World Music. He is a member of Gilad Atzmon’s band The Orient House Ensemble which regularly tours Europe and won best CD in the BBC Jazz awards in 2003 and has performed with Nigel Kennedy Larry Coryell, Peter King, Gary Husband and John Etheridge amongst many others.
