Regular monthly jazz at The Trades Club in Hebden Bridge

In association with the Trades Club, Dave Nelson stages a monthly jazz event in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, bringing you contemporary jazz from the best regional, UK and international musicians.

HX7 Jazz is a platform for fresh, exciting, young players, encourages new projects and, of course, features more established and well known touring performers.

HX7 Jazz is usually on the 4th Thursday of each month, although this will vary. Performances start at 8 pm (doors open 7.30) and will generally finish around 11.

Dave puts together the music for Hebden Bridge Arts Festival, and also runs a programme of music at Wainsgate Chapel.

‘It blew me away…Somewhere between Cinematic Orchestra and dubstep – just right!’ Gilles Peterson

Formed in Leeds in 2009, Submotion Orchestra have rapidly built up a reputation as one of the most interesting and original projects emerging from the UK today. Drawing upon dubstep, soul, ambient electronica, jazz and dub, their unique music is at once delicate and heavy, spacious and dense, highly atmospheric but firmly rooted. Earth-shaking bass and drums combine with lush keyboard and trumpet textures to create the perfect bed for the fragile beauty of the vocals, and the celestial effects of sound designer Ruckspin.

The band headlined at the Marsden Jazz Festival last year giving a sell-out performance that met with rave reviews for their unique take on jazz-fusion. Their gig in Hebden Bridge is likely to meet with similar success,  – especially since singer Ruby Wood has long been a favourite here.

Rod Mason’s Elements – 23rd February

by Jan on January 17, 2012

Rod Mason: Saxes, percussion
Richard Hammond: bass
Richard Wetherill: piano/keyboards
Dave Walsh: drums

The great thing about the Elements’ compelling array of music is that it covers pretty much the entire spectrum of contemporary jazz. Not only that, they rock!  “….This band is something else, believe me.  ‘Elements’ is described as Fusion Jazz, though what exactly it is fused with I lack the appropriate vocabulary to describe.  With Richard Wetherall on keys; Richard Hammond on bass; and Dave Walsh at the kitchen sink, this band is pulling up trees everywhere I tell you. Four top-class jazz musicians playing at what must surely be near the summit of their powers. Sensational!’ Bradford Jazz Club
